Short Course (25m) and Long Course (50m)
What's the difference?
Short Course (SCM)
During the "Short Course" season, the athletes train and compete in 25 meter pools only.
This means they are aiming to achieve the SCM (Short Course Meter) time standards.
Long Course (LCM)
During the "Long Course" season, the athletes train in 25 meter pools but primarily compete in 50 meter pools.
This means they are aiming to achieve the LCM (Short Course Meter) time standards.
Time Standards
Types of Standards
There are time standards that athletes must achieve in order to attend Regional, Divisional and Provincials Championship Meets.
There are different standards for each of these tiers of competition.
Age Groups
The standards are broken up into different categories depending on gender, age and meter season (SCM vs LCM).
Note: If a swimmer achieves Regional, Divisional or Provincial standards during the Short Course season, then they are automatically considered qualified for those meets in the Long Course Season. Unless they have had a birthday and aged up to a new age category.
